How to Get Your Maryland Medical Marijuana Card in 5 Steps

How to Get Your Maryland Medical Marijuana Card - Pharmkent Wellness

If you’re in Maryland and wondering how to get your Maryland medical marijuana card, Pharmkent Wellness has got you covered. This article outlines five simple steps that will help you understand the process of obtaining a medical marijuana card in Maryland so you can shop with us.

Identify Your Qualifying Condition

The first step in the application process for your marijuana card in Maryland is to determine whether you have a qualifying condition. According to the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission (MMCC), patients with the following conditions currently qualify for cannabis medicine:

  • Anorexia
  • Cachexia
  • Chronic Pain
  • Glaucoma
  • Muscle spasms
  • Severe Nausea (this includes patients experiencing nausea due to other medications)
  • Seizures
  • PTSD
  • Wasting Syndrome

The MMCC also lists patients with “any condition that is severe, for which other medical treatments have been ineffective, and if the symptoms reasonably can be expected to be relieved” by medical cannabis.

Register With the MMCC

Once you’ve confirmed you have a qualifying condition, you must register as a patient with the MMCC. Once you complete the online registration, you are permitted to have your provider recommend medical cannabis to you.

Every new Maryland Medical Marijuana patient must pay $50 to the MMCC for their patient identification card. Your Maryland medical cannabis card will then be valid for three years.

Obtain Your Certification From a Registered Provider

Once you’ve completed your online registration as a patient with the MMCC, you need to schedule a medical evaluation with a provider. This evaluation must be with a licensed provider with whom you’ve established a “bonafide provider-patient relationship.” Search for public registered providers in Maryland through the Onestop website by clicking here.

According to the MMMC, this relationship is defined specifically on the Commission’s website. The provider and patient must share and maintain medical records and perform medical evaluations.

If your provider determines you meet the criteria for medical cannabis treatment, you will then be issued a certification. Your provider will charge a fee for their services. Additionally, your provider may want to monitor your status with your cannabis medicine treatment and keep records for any necessary follow-up actions.
